Textbook Buy Back

About the Bookstore | FAQ | Textbook Buy Back | Return Policy | Forms

Q. May I sell back my textbooks?

A. Yes! We have a computerized buy back system now in place at OCC. Textbooks are unique - there aren't too many items that can be purchased, used for a set period of time, and then returned to the store for cash back. The best part is selling them back to the Bookstore and then putting the money back in your pocket.

There are several factors which determine how much cash you will receive from your textbooks:

Instructor Book Adoptions: If an instructor has requested your textbook for the next semester, then the value increases. Generally, you will receive 50% of the original purchase price. The Bookstore will purchase enough textbooks from students until we reach our shelf stock limit.

Condition: Textbooks are required to be in good shape with covers, pages and binding intact. The value is reduced if there is excessive highlighting, writing or underlining. Study guides, workbooks, and textbooks with perforated pages will not be accepted. All textbooks that are water damaged will be refused for resale.

Overstock and old editions: If the Bookstore has reached their limit on a specific title or the textbook has not been requested for the next semester, however is a current edition, we will pay market value based on our national system. Publishers tend to issue new editions quite frequently, therefore certain titles have no market value.

Q. How much can I expect to pay (per semester) for my textbooks?

A. Although prices vary according to the course of study and the number of credit hours, a student can expect to pay approximately $500 if enrolled in 15 credit hours. If an OCC student has enrolled in Nursing, Engineering, or Science classes, the cost will increase due to reference materials and/or lab requirements.
